My Five Year Bandiversary

Terry was a compulsive eater; no matter what diet he tried, he couldn’t gain control over what he ate. His compulsive eating behavior had reached the point where his weight limited his ability to participate in activities with his children. Even more concerning was the news that his weight was also threatening his life. At 456 pounds, the weight on Terry’s chest and neck was depriving his brain of oxygen. His doctors warned if he didn’t lose weight he may only have one year to live.

A recommendation from his neurologist put him in touch with the SmartShape Weight Loss Centre. The consultation was amazing. Not only did he feel confident about the surgeon’s experience, but for the first time in his life, he felt at ease talking about his weight.

Terry has lost 206 pounds. He’s travelling to exotic destinations and most importantly, he is able to actively play with his kids!

Summer Lovin' Activities

Put on your sunscreen and get ready to soak in the sunshine! Summer has officially arrived.  Here are some tips from your SmartShape Coaches to enjoy the outdoors…and get a workout.

Biking. “This popular leisure activity is one that I’ve enjoyed since childhood. It’s an activity that can be done as a group or on your own. Not only does biking provide physical benefits, but is an activity that can be done at your own pace. Don’t forget to wear a helmet, safety first.” —Tammy, Nurse Specialist

Walking. “Hippocrates once said “walking is man’s best medicine” and he was right! As an activity that is often disregarded as a form of exercise, walking is as simple as it gets. Walking as little as 30 minutes a day can provide you with endless benefits such as increasing your energy levels, strengthening your bones, enhancing your overall mood and lowering your stress levels.”—Rita, Program Advisor

Fruit Picking. “Fruit picking is an essential summer activity to add on your weekend’s to-do list! It’s fun, easy and a great way to spend time with your loved ones. So scan your community calendar and check out the best time to get your cream of the crop!” —-Margeaux, Registered Dietitian

Gardening. “Gardening not only provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the outdoors in, but it can also give you a chance to stretch those muscles and burn calories.” —Sue, Lap-Band Education Coach
