Why It’s Beneficial to Keep a Food Journal After Weight Loss Surgery

SmartShape Weight Loss Centre

Several studies have shown that people who keep food journals are more likely to be successful at losing weight and sustaining that weight loss compared to those who don’t. After your bariatric surgery writing down what you eat every day can encourage you, to eat fewer calories which helps with sustaining the weight loss.

If you are trying to consume fewer calories, writing it down and having it visually available is useful. Having a food journal also helps you monitor your tendency to order take-out. When writing a food journal make sure you also describe what you were doing while eating your meal; you may be watching TV, working on the computer, driving etc. Try to describe how you felt after you ate. Were you feeling happy? Were you still hungry? Were you eating because you were bored? Be honest with yourself.
