Safety and Weight Loss Surgery
Each weight loss journey is different. In the beginning of your weight loss journey at SmartShape™, you will have a consultation with one of our experts. You will fill out a detailed questionnaire with information regarding your current health and your medical background. You will have a chance to speak with one of our surgeons directly, which provides them with an opportunity to better understand your medical history and weight loss goals.
Our experts will take this time to learn more about your physical and emotional health, as well as your weight loss history and aspirations. This is when our surgeons will determine if you are a qualified candidate for weight loss surgery, and which surgery you qualify for. Our experts will not accept patients that they don’t deem fit for weight loss surgery.
SmartShape™ offers four different weight loss solutions, including:
- The LAP-BAND®
- Mini Gastric Bypass
- Gastric Sleeve
The LAP-BAND® is a gastric band that is placed around your stomach during a minimally-invasive weight loss procedure. The procedure is performed laparoscopically, which promotes a quicker recovery time with fewer surgery-related complications than invasive surgery. In fact, the LAP-BAND® has been shown to have fewer risks than any other surgical treatment for obesity available.[i] Complications are quite unusual, occurring in only about 2-3% of patients. This procedure has similar risks to most operations, like bleeding and infection. Again, these complications are extremely uncommon and rarely serious.
SmartShape™ offers a variation of the traditional Gastric Bypass procedure that is much simpler and more effective. The Mini Gastric Bypass simplifies the procedure, offering shorter operating times, reduced complications and improved results. Some patients who suffer from weight-related medical conditions may be put at risk when under anesthesia for a considerable amount of time. The Mini Gastric Bypass, along with the Gastric Sleeve that offers a much shorter operating time.
