Sometimes, those looking to lose weight with the help of a weight loss procedure or surgery may lean towards cheaper options. Some clinics may offer the same surgeries and procedures as the ones at SmartShape™, but at a cheaper price. In the moment, this might seem like a good idea. You’re paying less for the same procedure after all…right? Wrong. You must ask yourself, if these clinics are charging less, how good is the quality of their medical supplies, weight loss devices, or even their staff? It’s not like you’re trying to save a couple of dollars on milk – this is your body and overall health. This is especially applicable for those looking to have surgery performed outside of Canada and the United States.
At SmartShape™, you will have a highly-trained and experienced team of medical professionals by your side – every step of the way. From consultation and pre-op, to the procedure itself and recovery – you can rest assured that your health is in the best of hands. We only use the best tools, devices and medical products available to the industry.
Safety and Weight Loss Surgery
Each weight loss journey is different. In the beginning of your weight loss journey at SmartShape™, you will have a consultation with one of our experts. You will fill out a detailed questionnaire with information regarding your current health and your medical background. You will have a chance to speak with one of our surgeons directly, which provides them with an opportunity to better understand your medical history and weight loss goals.
Our experts will take this time to learn more about your physical and emotional health, as well as your weight loss history and aspirations. This is when our surgeons will determine if you are a qualified candidate for weight loss surgery, and which surgery you qualify for. Our experts will not accept patients that they don’t deem fit for weight loss surgery.
SmartShape™ offers four different weight loss solutions, including:
- The LAP-BAND®
- Mini Gastric Bypass
- Gastric Sleeve
The LAP-BAND® is a gastric band that is placed around your stomach during a minimally-invasive weight loss procedure. The procedure is performed laparoscopically, which promotes a quicker recovery time with fewer surgery-related complications than invasive surgery. In fact, the LAP-BAND® has been shown to have fewer risks than any other surgical treatment for obesity available.[i] Complications are quite unusual, occurring in only about 2-3% of patients. This procedure has similar risks to most operations, like bleeding and infection. Again, these complications are extremely uncommon and rarely serious.
SmartShape™ offers a variation of the traditional Gastric Bypass procedure that is much simpler and more effective. The Mini Gastric Bypass simplifies the procedure, offering shorter operating times, reduced complications and improved results. Some patients who suffer from weight-related medical conditions may be put at risk when under anesthesia for a considerable amount of time. The Mini Gastric Bypass, along with the Gastric Sleeve that offers a much shorter operating time.
Risk VS. Reward
Most surgeries and procedures come with certain risks. At SmartShape™, the rewards of our procedures most definitely outweigh the risks. Those suffering from weight-related conditions can experience many improvements once they start losing weight. Both the LAP-BAND® and Gastric Sleeve can result in a wide array of health improvements due to significant and sustainable weight loss.
They include the resolution or improvement of:
- Depression, improved by 47%
- Sleep Apnea, resolved by 75%
- Heartburn, resolved by 72%
- Diabetes, controlled by 80%
- Arthritis, improved by 47% and resolved by 41%
- Headaches, improved by 57%
- High-Blood Pressure, resolved by 87%
- High-Cholesterol, resolved by 71-94%
- Liver Disease, resolved by 90%
- Urinary Incontinence, improved by 39% and resolved by 44%
- Gout, resolved by 70%
Improving or resolving many of the health conditions that can be associated with obesity can reduce the probability of needing an associated surgery. Chances are, some weight-related surgeries may have even more risks than the procedures offered at SmartShape™. Undergoing a weight loss procedure now could reduce your chances of future, more risky weight-related surgeries.
