Brea Loses Over 100 Pounds with Weight Loss Surgery

My name is Brea, I am 36 years old and a mother to 3 children.

I have struggled with my weight pretty much my entire life.

As a kid I was very active and played sports, but I could never get my weight in check. Throughout my life, there were moments where I would be successful with weight loss for periods of time but the weight would always creep its way back up again.

When I was 19, I was meant to have gastric bypass surgery but the thought of it scared me, so instead I exercised and was able to lose over 100 pounds. Because of this, I figured I had the issue under control and cancelled the surgery.

However through my university years, I gained weight yet again and found myself at my all-time heaviest weight: 306 pounds. I was able to lose a bit on my own but never got to a point where I felt healthy and truly great about myself.

I am a nurse and every day I see the negative effects of obesity. The thought of developing a chronic issue such as diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease or high blood pressure because of my weight was not a path I wanted to travel. Not to mention the wear and tear I felt on my joints and body every day.

This was it. Something had to change.

I did some research on bariatric surgeries and, yes, I still had fears of what life would be like post-operatively, but I knew that the way I was living was not a good way to live.

In my research, I found SmartShape Weight Loss Centre. I submitted a short form online and within a day the clinic phoned me and set up a time that I could talk to the surgeon. I spoke directly to my surgeon and he answered all my questions. I was also given his number so I could phone him with any further questions I might have. The process was super easy and the staff at the clinic were amazing.

When I showed up at the clinic on my surgery date I was 274 pounds after following my pre-op diet. I felt great about my decision and failure was not an option in my mind. I knew that this was only going to work if I put in the effort as well.

The surgery was an hour and I spent one night in the clinic. By post-op day 2 I was already out doing some sight-seeing!

From that point on, my life was forever changed with my Gastric Sleeve. I monitored my calories and protein intake. I made better choices in all aspects of my food intake and found creative ways to make food taste good without taking away its nutritional value. I never felt unsupported and always knew that the staff at SmartShape were only a phone call away if I needed them.

By May 26th, one month post-op, I was down to 253 pounds and by July 26th I was 219 pounds. I allowed food progression to happen naturally. I listened to my body and when I felt full I didn’t eat a bite more. I was eating to live and not living to eat. I felt amazing.

By Christmas 2018 I was down to 161 pounds. I couldn’t believe it. I had lost almost 130 pounds in 8 months! This is the best part… At my one year date I was 145 pounds. I had lost over half of my weight for a total weight loss of 146.8 pounds!

Life is good. I have energy I never knew I had. I never realized how good I could feel. I don’t see any losses in my life since surgery – only gains.
